Newnan, Ga. | The Alabama State men's golf team closed out the National Black College Hall of Fame Invitational in fine form Saturday, carding a 294 en route to a third-place finish at Summer Grove Golf Club.
Afnan Chowdhury, competing as an individual for the Hornets, shined in his season debut with fifth-place result and two-day total of one-under par. Alabama State's other individual competitor,
Patricio Minondo, shed eight strokes off his opening 18 holes and recorded a 74 (+2) to close out the event in strong fashion.
Mbongeni Maphosa Jr. continued his recent string of solid play with a 74 in round two to finish tied for 14th. Thacher Neal and
Noel Sims each turned in two-day totals of +4 and finished in a four-way for 10th.
Thomas Caddell was steady each round (73-73) and grabbed a top-ten finish (T7). Rounding out the Alabama State golfers was Ben Swaffield, who carded his low round for the tournament with a final day 73, vaulting him up to 18th place overall.
Prairie Vie A&M (+3) took home the team title while the Panthers' Lorenzo Elbert (-8) won medalist honors.
The Hornets return to the Links tomorrow at the Skyhawk Fall Classic in Martin, Tenn.
