BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State continued its impressive start the 2018-19 Indoor Season with a strong showing at the Samford Invitational Friday at the Birmingham Crossplex.
The men had seven top five finishes while the women tallied six.

TOP PERFORMERS (WOMEN)
- The Lady Hornets flexed their muscle in the 200m dash, placing five runners in the top nine, led by sophomore Kyana Evans' fifth place finish
- Zaria Whittaker grabbed third in the 60 meter dash, posting a time of 7.64 seconds, just two-tenths of a second behind Aleyah McDonald (McNeese State); Nia Jack (seventh) crossed the finish line at 7.78
- Junior Christine Lavallias sprinted to a third place result (8.88 seconds) in the 60 meter hurdles and Ariayanna Val came in sixth (9.09 seconds)
- China Reed finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.33 meters
- Kristen Thompson grabbed a fifth-place result in the shot put with a throw of 12.76m
- Freshman Mariyah Archibald crossed the finish line in 5:38.25 in the one mile run, finishing 12th while Kleo Torres (1:02.62)
- Vinnelle Grant (2:19.41) sprinted to a seventh place finish while Hannah Mezidor (2:20.46) came in eighth in the 800m

TOP PERFORMERS (MEN)
- Jamie Brown continued his strong early season tear with a second place result in the long jump (7.21 m)
- Caesar Kemp finished first in the shot put (16.61m)
- Andrew Jackson notched a third-place finish in the 800 meter run behind a strong time of 1:57.01
- Freshman Marcus Cade (7.09) posted a third-place result in the long jump; Chaaka Trahan (6.10m) came in 11th
- Junior Joshua Coffelt glided to a seventh-place standing in the one mile run behind a time of 4:25.94 and teammate Kevin Smith (eighth) crossed at 4:33.58
- A trio of Hornets - David East, Kevin Spraggins and Norris Spike - finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 200m
