DALLAS, Texas | Alabama State ran through the competition on the opening day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) RoundUp, winning all five of its matches.
The Lady Hornets (35-35) ran their record to .500 for the first time this season and edge head coach
Andrew Chatmon closer to 500 wins (494). Alabama State took down Prairie View A&M for the first time this season, 861 - 855, and won comfortably in its other four matches. The Lady Hornets amassed 4,546 total pins on the day, averaging 181.6 per game. Additionally, six Alabama State competitiors found themselves inside the top-20 on the individual leaderboard at the end of the day.
THE RESULTS
- Alabama State defeated Southern (886 - 806), Grambling State (940 - 617), Jackson State (931 - 878) and Texas Southern (928 - 837)
- Haley Young is in third on the individual leaderboard after averaging 201.80 pins per game, which included a 237 in her final match of the day
- Alize Stevenson continued her torrid play by averaging 192.00 pins on the day, placing her in sixth place; Tiarra Wilkins is in seventh (188.50 pins)
- Emani Davis (11th), Allison Sledge (15th) and Bailee Chapman (19th) rounded out the top-20 performers from Alabama State
THE FIELD
- Texas Southern notched three wins against two losses while Prairie View A&M picked up three wins in four tries and is in third place despite having the highest per match scoring average (182.5)
