DALLAS, Texas | Alabama State continued to separate itself from the competition at the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Western Roundup, posting three wins in four matches, further strengthening its grip on first place.
The Lady Hornets (38-36) climbed over .500 for the first time this season despite dropping their first match of the tournament to Jackson State (921 - 858).
"We struggled against Jackson State in our last match and had some bad luck with 13 splits. It is tough to win when you leave that many splits," Alabama State head coach
Andrew Chatmon said.
The Lady Hornets have amassed 8,945 total pins through nine matches, averaging 178.9 per game.Three Alabama State players find themselves inside the top-10 on the individual leaderboard.
THE RESULTS
- Alabama State defeated Alabama A&M (831 - 792), Southern (982 - 917) and Grambling State (830 - 601)
- Haley Young is in second place (200.71 average pins per match)
- Alize Stevenson is in seventh with an average of 184.00 pins per game, while Allison Sledge is in 10th (181.63)
- Freshman Bailee Chapman (18th), Tiarra Wilkins (20th), Emani Davis (21st) and Gabby Hosien (24th) have all turned in strong performances
DAY THREE
- Alabama State faces Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern and Alabama A&M tomorrow to close out the tournament
