MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State heads to the Bluegrass State this weekend for the Rod McCravy Memorial at Nutter Field House.
The Hornets rank No. 23 in this week's USTFCCCA poll and the Lady Hornets are No. 34. The men's best event nationally is the high jump (51st), averaging 1.85m 6-3/4. The Lady Hornets check in with a No. 25 ranking in the 60m dash, averaging 7.58 seconds.
Eastern Kentucky, Georgia State, Kentucky (host), Murray State, Ohio State, Southern Miss and Western Kentucky will be competing in the event, among other teams.

A Look Inside the Alabama State Hornets
- The Hornets are paced in the 60 meters by David East and Norris Spike, with the two holding the top mark this season with a time of 6.82.
- East and Kevin Spraggins (21.96) hold the record in 2019 in the 200m.
- Joshua Coffelt's 4:25.94 mile is the top time among all Hornets.
- Marcus Cade and Jamie Brown have been the top jumpers this season for coach Ritchie Beene's club.
- Brown's 7.40m leap in the long jump at the Gene Edmonds Open and Cade's 14.38m in the triple jump at the Purdue meet are team-bests.
- Sophomore Caesar Kemp has been strong in the throws, tossing a team-best 16.71m in the shot put (Gene Edmonds Open) and Marquis Nelson 16.34m in the weight throw at the KMS Invitational.

A Look Inside the Alabama State Lady Hornets
- Charminiqu Hackney and Nia Jack have paced the short distance runners, with Hackney posting a team-best 7.49 seconds in the 60m at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker and Jack securing a season-best 25.07 seconds in the 200m at the KMS Invitational.
- Vinnelle Grant posted the top 800m time at the Samford invite with a time of 2:19.41
- Sophomore Hannah Mezidor (5:22.52) has the top time in the mile for the Lady Hornets following her showing at the KMS Invitational.
- Christine Lavallias (8.81) posted the top 60m hurdle time for the Lady Hornets when she turned in a 8.81 at the KMS Invitational
- China Reed had a long jump of 5.33m at the Samford Invite, leading all athletes in 2019
- Kristen Thompson (13.01m – shot put) and Bridgette Williams (16.20m – weight throw) have led Alabama State in throws

About the Rod McCravy Memorial
- This weekend's track and field meet is named in honor of Rodriq McCravy, a former UK track athlete. McCravy, who quickly established himself as a leader with great respect and care for others, died in 1987 at age 19.
- McCravy was just a sophomore, but he had already made a lasting impact on his teammates, coaches and the UK administration.
