MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns to action this weekend (January 11-13) at the Mid-Winter Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark.
Host Arkansas State welcomes 20 other teams to the event at Hijinx Lanes. The invitational gets underway Friday with teams competing in five baker matches. Saturday consists of five traditional match-ups while Sunday will feature best of seven baker matches as the teams aim to advance through a pre-seeded bracket. The seeding will be determined by each club's respective performance throughout the weekend.
A LOOK INSIDE THE ALABAMA STATE HORNETS
- The Lady Hornets (24-28) closed out the fall on a high note, taking home a 9-4 record and fourth place finish for their best result of the year
- Among the victories, Alabama State took down nationally-ranked UAB and La. Tech
- Haley Young, Tiarra Wilkins, Ashley Walker, Allison Sledge and Gabrielle Hosein provide the Lady Hornets with a deep rotation of veterans
- Head Coach Andrew Chatmon is now 17 wins shy of 500 for his career
THE COMPETITION
- Arkansas State, Central Missouri, Drury, Grambling, Jackson State, Kentucky Wesleyan, Lincoln (Mo.), Lincoln Memorial, Louisiana Tech, Maryville, McKendree, Nebraska, Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, Texas Southern, Tulane, Valparaiso and Vanderbilt join Alabama State in the loaded field
- A total of 12 ranked teams comprise the field, including seven of the top-10. McKendree (No. 1), Nebraska (No. 2), Vanderbilt (No. 3) and Arkansas State (No. 4) highlight the competition
