BOULDER, Nev. | Alabama State shot the eighth lowest round of the final day of competition at the Jackrabbit Invitational held at the Boulder Creek Golf Club Saturday.
The Hornets shot a final round 297 to finish at 60-over par 924 for the tournament, placing them 13th overall. Alabama State shaved 15 shots off their first round score on Friday, and then another nine strokes from the second to the final round Saturday.
Alabama State finished just five shots back of Southern Utah and Youngstown State who finished at 55-over 919, and just six shots back of the top 10 where Western Carolina finished with a 54-over 918 for the tournament.
Ben Swaffield recorded a top 10 finish individually in the tournament with a final round 73, to finish the tournament at six-over 222. He finished one shot out of eighth, and just three shots out of a top five finish where three other golfers finished in the tournament. Meanwhile,
Thacher Neal finished tied for 34th overall with a final round 72, and three round total of 228.
Afnan Chowdhury finished tied for 69th with a three round total of 236, while
Noel Sims (239) and
Mbongeni Maphosa (246) rounded out the golfers for Alabama State.
The Hornets return to action March 31 at the HBCU Match Play Invitational in Raleigh (NC).
