BIRMINGHAM, Ala.| Alabama State won three of four Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Athlete of the Week awards in track and field, announced by the conference office Wednesday morning.

Kevin Spraggins was named the SWAC Track Athlete of the Week on the men's side after he took over the top spot in the 200-meter dash after turning in a time of 20.88 seconds at the Gamecock Invitational. Additionally, he aided the Hornets' 4x400-meter relay team to a seventh place finish (3:13.37).

Jamie Brown was named the SWAC Field Athlete of the Week after he improved his conference-leading mark in the long jump with a distance of 7.73 meters during the Gamecock Invitational, earning second place in the event. The senior also finished sixth in the triple jump, clearing 14.76 meters on his way to a sixth-place finish.

Meanwhile, Charminiqu Hackney moved into the top five nationally in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash events after her performances at the Gamecock Invitational. Hackney won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.95 seconds and finished second in the 100-meter dash (11.20 seconds). Both times are personal best marks and rank her third and fourth in the nation, respectively.

Alabama State returns to action this weekend at the War Eagle Invitational in Auburn.
