RALEIGH, N.C. | The final day of the BCGCA Match Play Invitational was canceled due to rain at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club Tuesday morning, a day after Alabama State claimed a 4-1 victory over North Carolina Central on the opening day of play.
Alabama State claimed three wins in individual play on the opening day of Match Play, while also claiming a win at number five when
Noel Sims picked up a win due to a withdrawal.
Thacher Neal picked a win at number two over North Carolina Central's Samuel Bradley, 5&4, while
Afnan Chowdhury picked up a 7&6 win at number three over Camron Ratliff for two of the Hornets' points on the day. They also picked up a win at number four where
Thomas Caddell won 7&6 over North Carolina Central's Joshua Young.
The lone win for North Carolina Central came at number one where Daniel Barbare defeated Alabama State's
Ben Swaffield 1up.
In the other match on the opening day of play, Alabama A&M defeated UMES 4-1 which would have forced an All-Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) final between Alabama State and the Bulldogs Tuesday.
Alabama State returns to action April 14 at the SWAC Championships in Alexandria (La.), a tournament in which they finished as the runner-up last season to Prairie View A&M.
