AUSTIN, Texas | For the second time this season, Alabama State jumper
Jamie Brown will compete among the nation's best at the NCAA Championships.
This week he will be in competition at the University of Texas.
Brown, who competed earlier this season at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, will hit the pit for the second time in his career at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Wednesday night. The senior reached the outdoor championships with a fourth place finish in the East Prelims with a season-best jump of 7.74 meters (25-04.25) in the long jump, finishing behind Rayvon Grey (LSU), Yann Randrianasolo (South Carolina) and JuVaughn Harrison (LSU).
He will enter the championships with the eighth-best jump in the nation after the East Prelims, sharing the spot with Charles Brown of Texas Tech. He is just .06 meters out of the fifth-best jump in the country entering the competition, held by Grey at 7.80 meters.
The senior joins 23 other jumpers chasing a national title, including 17 from Power 5 conferences.
The competition begins at 8 pm Wednesday night and can be seen on ESPN3. The long jump is the fourth of five field events on the men's side held on the first day.
