@BamaStateTFXC records multiple top 15 finishes at Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. | Alabama State placed several student-athletes in the top 15 of their events at the Rod McCravey Memorial Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky, over the weekend.

On the track, Charminiqu Hackney reached the semifinals of the 60-meter dash with a pair of sub-7.7 times. She advanced through the prelims with a time of 7.58 seconds, before finishing just outside the qualifying times for the finals with a time of 7.67 in the semifinals. Meanwhile, in the 60-meter hurdles, Shamaria Lovett ran times of 8.37 seconds (prelims) and 8.45 (semifinals) to advance to the finals of the event.

Four Lady Hornets finished inside the top 15 of the 800-meters led by Arion Span in fifth place with a time of 2:12.82 – finishing just two seconds out from the top spot. She was followed by Michaela Lewis in 8th place with time of 2:15.36 and Vinnelle Grant in 12th with a time of 2:16.54. Hannah Mezidor rounded out the runners in the top 15, finishing 13th overall with a time of 2:17.31.

Mariyah Archibald finished inside the top 15 of the 3000 meters with a time of 11:18.17. A pair of relay teams finished inside the top 15 with the 4x400 team finishing 11th overall with a time of 3:47.45 – just two seconds behind Maryland – and the Distance Medley Relay team finished eighth with a time of 12:16.78.

Meanwhile, on the men's side, Norris Spike reached the finals of the 60-meter dash with times of 6.81 (prelims) and 6.85 (semis). He finished fifth overall with a time of 6.81 seconds in the finals of the event. Ricky Thornton recorded a pair of top-15 finishes beginning with the 600-meters where he finished 14th overall with a time of 1:21.17. He then ran a time of 1:56.58 – finishing just one second out of the top five overall.

Brandon Phillips (1:57.50) and Javonne Kirksey (1:59.83) finished eighth and 12th respectively in the 800 meters, while Abdi Hussein recorded a pair of top 15 finishes on the day. He finished ninth in the one mile run with a time of 4:20.35, before recording a time of 8:45.71 and finishing 13th overall in the 3000 meters. He was joined in the 3000 meters by Matthew Kibet with a 15th-place finish in a time of 8:59.98.

Marcus Cade finished with a pair of top 16 finishes in field events, finishing sixth in the high jump (2.01 meters) and 16th in the long jump (6.81 meters). The men's 4x400-meter relay team finished 15th overall with a time of 3:24.18.

Alabama State returns to action next weekend in Birmingham (Ala.) at the South Alabama Invitational.
