PRATTVILLE, Ala. | Alabama State finds itself in contention for a pair of championships at the Spring Kickoff Classic held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Prattville after the opening day Sunday.
The Lady Hornets have a two-stroke lead over Evansville through the first 36 holes, shooting a 31-over (607), while Evansville finished the opening two rounds with a 33-over (609). The two have pulled away from third-place Western Illinois who carded a 70-over (646) on the opening day of play.
A trio of Lady Hornets are in the top five heading into the final day of competition, led by
Mack Bailey in second place with a 3-over (147) through two rounds leaving her just one shot back of Caitlin O'Donnell of Evansville at 2-over (146). Teammate
Alma Garcia is in third heading into the final day after a 4-over (148) and
Abigail Pederson is in fourth at 5-over (149).
On the men's side, Alabama State sits third just three shots off the lead heading into the final day of competition at 2-over (588), closing the gap after a second round 285 – a tournament round best. They are 11 shots back of Western Illinois (11-over 577) and 12 back of Evansville who shot an even par through the first two rounds.
Dallas Keith of Evansville leads the tournament, alongside Wyatt Spier of Western Illinois as each carded a two-round total of 7-under (137) – each carding a 67 on the opening day. Kyle Irlbacker of Western Illinois is in third at 3-under (141), followed by
Noel Sims of Alabama State at 2-under (142).
Sims is joined in the to 10 by
Afnan Chowdhury in a tie for sixth at even-par (144) and
Thomas Caddell in a tie for eighth at 1-over (145).
The tournament concludes with the final round Monday morning beginning at 8 am.
