PRATTVILLE, Ala. | Alabama State finished inside the top three of the ASU Spring Classic held on the Senator Course of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Capitol Hill Monday afternoon.
On the women's side, Alabama State finished second following a final round 308, finishing the tournament at 52-over (916). They finished just five strokes behind Evansville who shot a final round 302 to finish the tournament at 47-over (911). The Lady Hornets finished ahead of Western Illinois (97-over) and UME (179-over) in the tournament.
The Lady Hornets tied atop the individual standings on the women's side with
Alma Garcia and
Abigail Pederson battled the rainy conditions on Monday to shoot identical final round scores of 2-over (74) to finish the tournament at 7-over (223). The duo finished one stroke ahead of Sophia Rohleder of Evansville at 8-over (224).
Mack Bailey finished sixth overall at 13-over (229) after a final round 82 to round out the top 10 for the Lady Hornets.
Meanwhile, on the men's side, Alabama State finished third with a 14-over (878) finishing behind eventual champion Western Illinois (3-under) and Evansville (1-under).
Noel Sims was the top finisher for the Hornets, finishing tied for fifth with a 1-under (215) for the tournament after a final round 73. He was joined in the top 10 by teammate
Thacher Neal in eighth with a 1-over (217), following a final round 70.
Afnan Chowdhury finished just outside the top 10 with a 3-over (219), finishing 11th overall.
