@BamaStateGolf shoots opening round 307, in 28th place after round one

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. | Alabama State fired an opening round 19-over (307) at the Kiawah Island Classic to sit 28th after the first 18 holes in the largest team tournament in the country.

The Lady Hornets are just one shot back of Samford (27th), two shots back three teams tied for 24th, three shots back of Towson and four shots back of the top 20 after the opening round of play in the tournament that features 53 teams from across the country.

Alma Garcia and Jade Sanders each fired an opening round 4-over (76) to lead Alabama State and are tied for 87th. Meanwhile, Mack Bailey shot an opening round 5-over (77) to land in a tie for 108th, while Abigail Pederson finished at 6-over (78).

The College of Charleston is the only school to shoot under par in the opening round, firing a 7-under (281), while IUPUI sits second at even (288). Individually, Ellen Hume of the College of Charleston leads the tournament at 5-under (67).

The tournament resumes with the second round Monday, with morning wave getting things started at 8:45 am (ET).
