JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. | Alabama State finds itself in seventh place after the opening round of the Don Benbow Invitational at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Course.
The Hornets shot an opening round 37-over (321) and they are just five shots behind Purdue Fort Wayne (32-over 316) and six shots behind fifth-place Savannah State (31-over 315). Drexel leads after the opening round after a 16-over 300 and is followed by the host team, Butler (19-over 303) atop the leaderboard.
Afnan Chowdhury led the way for Alabama State in the opening round with a 5-over par (77) to finish tied for ninth, while
Noel Sims is tied for 20th with an opening round 7-over par (79). Meanwhile,
Thacher Neal enters the second round tied for 33rd with an opening round 81,
Thomas Caddell finished tied for 43rd with an opening round 84, and
Bishop Stringer is tied for 51st with an opening round 86.
Play continues Tuesday with the second round.
