MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State will play host to Jackson State in a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series this weekend at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex with a chance to close the gap at the top of the standings.
Alabama State (7-21, 2-4 SWAC) sits just two games back of Jackson State at the top of the division, while Alabama A&M is sandwiched between the two just three games ahead in the win column over the Lady Hornets.
The series, which was originally scheduled to begin Friday, will start Saturday night at 6 pm and conclude on Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 12 noon. Due to COVID-19 protocols and socially distant seating in place, only those individuals listed on the Player Pass List will be allowed admission into the complex. Concessions will remain cashless this weekend, and masks are mandatory on the Alabama State campus and all of its athletic venues.
The Lady Hornets enter the weekend after a mid-week split with Florida A&M on Wednesday night in Montgomery and return to conference play following a weekend off.
Jaeda Gardner (.328/.375/.377) leads Alabama State at the plate with 21 hits including three doubles and seven stolen bases. Meanwhile,
Alex Massie (.258/.303/.315) has added three doubles, while
Kindall DeRamus (.256/.321/.293) leads the team in stolen bases with 13.

Skyler Sullivan (7-8, 4.43 ERA, 1.65 WHIP) leads the team in wins and earned run average while logging 105.2 innings this season. She has allowed 61 runs (52 earned) while striking out 47. Meanwhile,
Madison Myers – a two-way player for Alabama State – has logged 27.0 innings this season for Alabama State with 12 strikeouts.
