BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State opened the 2022 portion of their indoor track and field schedule with several top 15 finishes at the UAB Blazer Invitational inside the Birmingham Crossplex.
On the women's side,
Vinnelle Grant (Amityville, N.Y.) led all finishers for the Lady Hornets with a fourth-place finish in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:16.51, while
Shamia Jones (Albany, Ga.) recorded a top five finish, finishing fifth in the 600 meters with a time of 1:34.13. Meanwhile,
Kyana Evans (Detroit, Mich.) recorded a pair of top 15 finishes including finishing 11th in the 300 meters with a time of 39.52 seconds.
She also finished 14th in the 60 meters with a time of 7.70 seconds.
Taranique Alexander (Miami, Fla.) recorded a pair of top 20 finishes with an 18th place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.19 meters, while also finishing 19th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.28 seconds.
Meanwhile, on the men's side, the Hornets recorded five top 10 finishes including a pair from
Marcus Cade (Thomson, Ga.). The junior finished seventh in both the high jump (1.91 meters) and long jump (6.86 meters), while
Xavier Clark (Miramar, Fla.) finished eighth in the long jump (6.85 meters) and ninth in the high jump (1.81 meters).
Kevin Smith (Saint Catherine, Jamaica) finished ninth in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:36.57 to round out the top 10 finishes for the Hornets.
Meanwhile,
Antonio Doster, Jr. (Byron, Ga.) finished 11th overall in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:07.14, while
Preston Walton (Jonesboro, Ga.) finished 13th overall in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:56.57.
Daniel Bayeshea (Kingston, Jamaica) finished 16th in the shot put with a throw of 14.49 meters.
