ORLANDO, Fla. | Alabama State had several top 15 finishes in their opening meet of the outdoor season at the Black & Gold Invitational this weekend.

On the women's side, the Hornets' 4x100-meter relay team finished third overall in a time of 3:47.37, finishing just behind Rutgers and Kentucky. In individual action, Kyana Evans (Detroit, Mich.) recorded a pair of top 15 finishes in the 100-meters and 200-meters, finishing 13th in the 100-meters in a time of 11.70 seconds – finishing just 0.02 seconds behind I'Asia Wilson of UCF. She finished 11th overall in the 200-meters with a time of 23.79 just 0.01 seconds behind Kaylyn Heath of Kentucky.

Rebecca Bernardin (Turks and Caicos Island) finished 13th in the 800-meters in a time of 2:15.86 finishing just behind Kiera Nealon of Rutgers. Meanwhile, her teammate Penina Chelangat (Eldoret, Kenya) finished 15th in the 3000-meters at 12:32.02 while Kayleigh O'Neal finished 16th at 12:54.80.

On the men's side, Matthew Clarke (Six Roads, Barbados) finished second in the 100-meters in a time of 10.44 seconds, finishing behind Rodney Heath, Jr. of Kentucky at 10.32 seconds. Justus Trainer (Saraland, Ala.) finished 10th in the event at 10.78. Meanwhile, Kevin Smith (Saint Catherine, Jamaica) finished in the top 15 in the 800-meters in a time of 1:54.64, while the men's 4x400-meter relay team finished in a time of 3:15.40 – finishing behind Southwestern and Kentucky.

Marcus Cade (Thomaston, Ga.) had three finishes inside the top 10 in field events, finishing third in the high jump at 2.02 meters (6-07.50), sixth in the long jump at 7.28 meters (23-10.75), and fifth in the triple jump at 14.62 meters (47-11.75). Meanwhile, Xavier Clarke (Miramar, Fla.)  finished in the top 15 in the same three events finishing 11th in the high jump at 1.87 meters (6-01.50) and triple jump at 13.48 meters (44-02.75), while finishing 13th in the long jump at 7.00 meters (22-11.75).
