MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Kyler McIntosh (Columbus, Ind.) and
Corey King (Lithonia, Ga.) came up big for Alabama State in the bottom of the eighth inning, combining to drive in three runs for a 7-4 non-conference victory over South Alabama at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex on Tuesday night.
The win avenged a loss last week to the Jags (10-0) in Mobile but wasn't decided until the top of the ninth when South Alabama loaded the bases. A low lone drive was fielded by McIntosh who caught the ball and tagged the bag at first all in one motion for the double play before he was able to put the game away on the final out.
King led Alabama State (19-14) at the plate, finishing 2-for-5 with three RBI, while
Jabronski Williams (Troy, Ala.) finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and McIntosh 2-for-4. Meanwhile,
Payton Harris (Hattiesburg, Miss.) got the win out of the bullpen, improving to 2-2 on the season. He worked 1.2 innings in relief of
Omar Melendez (Cayey, PR).
Osvaldo Mendez (Carolina, PR) came on in the ninth with the bases loaded to record his first save of the season.
