FLOWOOD, Miss. | Alabama State improved by 17 shots from round one to round two, jumping to second place overall at the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championships on Tuesday.
Alabama State found itself in third after an opening round 328 before posting a 23-over 311 to finish the second round at 63-over 639. They sit 20 shots behind the leader Texas Southern at 43-over 619, and 25 shots ahead of third-place Prairie View A&M at 88-over 664.
Katie Robinson (American Canyon, Calif.) jumped nine spots after the low round of the day, an even par 72 to head into the final round at 12-over 156. She is two shots behind Dili Sitanonth of Texas Southern in third at 10-over 154, and just three shots behind the leaders Ashlie Hobbs (Texas Southern) and Kennedi Lee (Texas Southern).
Teresa Diez Dorte (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) moved up four spots into seventh after a second round 77, just four shots behind Robinson in fourth.
Tia Kimbrough (Bellville, Ill.) slipped three spots into a tie for eighth at 18-over par, while
Hallie Bridgers (Baltimore, Md.) is in 12th at 20-over par.
Iman Adams (Cape Town, South Africa) rounds out the Hornets in the tournament in 14th at 24-over par.
The tournament concludes Wednesday with the final of three rounds beginning at 8 am.
