JACKSON, Miss. | Alabama State split a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contests on Saturday against Jackson State after a delay forced the stoppage in the series on Friday night. The Hornets won game one 6-2, before falling in the nightcap 5-0 to even the series.
In the opener, Alabama State (21-16, 12-3 SWAC) jumped on Jackson State after the Friday night delay, scoring two runs in the sixth and adding three more in the ninth for the win.
Corey King (Lithonia, Ga.) finished the opener 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, while
Chris Lewis (Alabaster, Ala.) finished 2-for-4 and
Kyler McIntosh (Columbus, Ind.) also went 2-for-4.
Breon Pooler (Huntsville, Ala.) improved to 7-0 on the year with the win in the opener, giving up one run on three hits before giving way
to Payton Harris (Hattiesburg, Miss.) and
Sebastian Colon (Juana Diaz, PR) who combined to give up one run on one hit in four combined innings.
In the nightcap, Alabama State registered seven hits as a team with six different players picking up a single hit.
Cristopher DeGuzman (Fajardo, PR) finished the night 2-for-5 for the Hornets.
Osvaldo Mendez (Carolina, PR) suffered his first loss (4-1) of the season after working 5.2 innings and allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits with five strikeouts.

- B7 | Devontae Rhodes reached on an infield single to drive in a run (3-2, Alabama State).
- T9 | Hunter May (Slidell, La.) singled to left to drive in a pair of runs before Christian Lopez (San Diego, Calif.) singled in the final run of the game (6-2, Alabama State).
How It Happened (Game 2)
- B2 | Jaelan Williams singled back to the pitcher to get the early lead for Jackson State before Caleb Evans used a squeeze to get home another run (2-0, Jackson State).
- B6 | Evans singled to left to drive home a pair and Jefrey Rodriguez singled to left to drive home a run for the final runs of the night (5-0, Jackson State).
