MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Austin King (Fulton, Miss.) and
Payton Harris (Hattiesburg, Miss.) kept Alabama A&M off-balance to help Alabama State win its Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series with a game two win over Alabama A&M 9-3 at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex on Saturday night.
King (4-1) picked up the win, working 6.0 innings and allowing just one run off four hits while striking out 11 (of a possible 18 outs). Meanwhile, Harris came on to pick up his third save of the season, working 3.0 innings and allowing a pair of runs on two hits.
Meanwhile, seven different Hornets picked up a hit in the win including three with multiple hits on the night.
Dilan Espinal (Canovanas, PR) finished 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, while
Christian Lopez (San Diego, Calif.) and
Trenton Jamison (Atlanta, Ga.) each went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI.
Hunter May (Slidell, La.) finished 1-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and a pair of RBI.
How It Happened
- T1 | Jared Tribett started the scoring for Alabama A&M with a triple to score Tim Dixon (1-0, Alabama A&M).
- B1 | Alabama State answered quickly with four runs beginning with an RBI single by Lopez to score Corey King (Lithonia, Ga,) before Jamison doubled and Luis Rodriguez (Canovanas, PR) singled through the left side to grow the lead (4-1, Alabama State).
- B3 | May scored on a wild pitch (5-1, Alabama State).
- B4 | Espinal singled up the middle to score King before Hunter May doubled down the left field line to drive in a pair. He later scored on an RBI groundout by Lopez (9-1, Alabama State).
- T8 | Tommy Easley hit a two-run home run to center (9-3, Alabama State).
