MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State ended a five-game losing streak with a 16-5 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) run-rule victory over Mississippi Valley State at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex on Friday night.
Corey King (Lithonia, Ga.) finished 4-for-4 with four RBI, three runs scored and a double while
Dilan Espinal (Canovanas, PR) finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored.
Kyler McIntosh (Columbus, Ind.) and
Cristopher DeGuzman (Fajardo, PR) each finished with a pair of hits, while
Jabronski Williams (Troy, Ala.) hit a three-run double.
Breon Pooler (Huntsville, Ala.) got the start and went 5.1 innings to improve to 8-2 on the season. He gave up three runs (two earned) on just two hits while striking out nine. He gave way to
Nate Palmer (Deland, Fla.) in the top of the sixth inning before
Sebastian Colon (Juana Diaz, PR) came in to finish things off for the Hornets going 1.2 innings and allowing just one hit.
How It Happened
- B1 | DeGuzman singled to left center to score McIntosh before Chris Lewis (Alabaster, Ala.) drew a bases-loaded walk for the game's second run. The inning continued when Espinal doubled down the right field line to clear the bases for a five-run lead before King cleared the bases with a double to right center. The inning ended following a McIntosh double to left center (9-0, Alabama State).
- T2 | Davon Mims scored on a wild pitch (9-1, Alabama State).
- B4 | Lewis scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead before King lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Espinal (11-1, Alabama State).
- B5 | Espinal singled up the middle before Williams connected on a three-run home run to extend the lead (15-1, Alabama State).
- T6 | Antonio Walker and Mims recorded back-to-back RBI singles before Narvin Booker was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Maury Weaver singled through the right side for the final run of the inning (15-5, Alabama State).
- B6 | Hunter May (Slidell, La.) hit a sacrifice fly to score King (16-5, Alabama State).
Up Next
The two teams will resume play from a game earlier this season with Alabama State winning 11-4 in the sixth inning at 2 pm, followed by their originally scheduled game on Saturday.
