TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Alabama State fell 7-6 to Florida A&M in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action on Sunday, dropping just their second series of the year in conference play and swept for the first time this season.
Alabama State (24-21, 15-7 SWAC) finds themselves looking up in the standings since the opening weekend as Florida A&M (25-23, 18-6 SWAC) sits three games ahead in the win column. The Hornets still have two games to be made up against Mississippi Valley State, one that they are currently winning 11-4 in the sixth inning.
Corey King (Lithonia, Ga.) was one of three Hornets to pick up multiple hits, finishing 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI, while
Kyler McIntosh (Columbus, Ind.) finished 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Christian Lopez (San Diego, Calif.) went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI for the Hornets who finished with 11 hits in the loss. McIntosh (2-4), the third of three pitchers used on the day by Alabama State, suffered the loss, working the final 3.2 innings and allowing two runs (both earned) on four hits.
Austin King (Fulton, Miss.) got the start and last 2.2 innings giving up four runs (four earned) on five hits before giving way to
Ricardo Rivera (San Juan, PR) who went 1.2 innings and allowed one run on one hit.
Alabama State jumped ahead early before Florida A&M scored five unanswered runs, including three in the third, to take a 5-1 lead through five before the Hornets scored four of their own in the sixth. The Rattlers were able to take a 7-5 lead in the ninth when King scored on a
Trenton Jamison (Atlanta, Ga.) hit. The game ended with the tying run just 180-feet away for Alabama State.

- B3 | Bryant drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to center before Ethan Jenkins singled through the right side to drive in a pair of runs (4-1, Florida A&M).
- B5 | Joseph Pierni scored on a wild pitch (5-1, Florida A&M).
- T6 | Dilan Espinal (Canovanas, PR) singled through the right side to score Ian Matos (Toa Alta, PR) followed by Lopez with a single through the right scored to score Jabronski Williams (Troy, Ala.) and Espinal. King singled through the left side to score Lopez and tied the game (5-5).
- B8 | Robert Robinson singled through to right center before Jalen Niles singled to left to push the margin to two (7-5, Florida A&M).
- T9 | King scored on a Jamison single up the middle (7-6, Florida A&M).

Alabama State returns home on Tuesday against UAB with first pitch scheduled for 6 pm at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex. They will stay at home this weekend to face Mississippi Valley State in a three-game series beginning on Friday.
