Hornets Along With Team Sifford Win Inaugural Charlie Sifford Centennial Cup

Charlotte, N.C. - The Alabama State University men's golf team along with five other HBCU programs competed in the inaugural Charlie Sifford Centennial Cup at the Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, N.C. on Monday, August 29, 2022.

Team Sifford (Alabama State, Florida A&M, and Livingstone College) secured the 12-6 victory over Team Black (Howard, Texas Southern, and Johnson C. Smith). 

Players were divided into two teams of 12 for a nine-hole Four-Ball match in the morning and an 18-hole singles match that took place in the afternoon. The scoring format followed Presidents Cup scoring. 

Team Sifford won 4-2 in the Four-Ball matches followed by an 8-4 victory in the 18-hole singles match. The Hornet competing were Bishop Stringer, Gonzalo Moreno, Ty Roberts and Miguel Ilas. 

The Hornet will be back in action as they head to Potomac, Maryland to compete in the Howard-USF Invitational on September 26, 2022.
