HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Gonzalo Moreno led three golfers inside the top five as Alabama State won the AAMU Fall Invitational with a 22-over (886) on Tuesday afternoon.
Moreno fired a 3-under (69) in the opening round and followed that up with an even-par (72) in the second round to enter the final round one shot up on Jose Berenguel of UAPB. The senior was able to extend his lead in the final round with a 1-under round, finishing at 4-under (212) for a three-shot victory.
Miguel Ilas finished fourth overall in the tournament using a first-round 1-over (73) to finish at 6-over (222) for the tournament, while
Ty Roberts finished fifth overall with a 7-over (223).
Alabama State claimed the overall championship with a 22-over (886), finishing 19 shots ahead of UAPB. The Hornets used a first-round 294 and a second-round 292, before finishing the tournament with a 300 in the final round.
