MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2023 outdoor track and field season with a succssful wekend at the Tiger Tack Classic.
The Hornets and Lady Hornets battled tough weather conditions during the two-day event, capturing three event wins with a runner-up finish.
"We were able to accomplish the things we planned for the weekend," Alabama State University Head Track and Field Coach Ritchie Beene said. "The weather was not ideal, but that's why it's called "outdoor season."
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- Shamai Jones won the1500-meters with a personal record 4:43.28.
- Rebecca Bernadin placed second in the 1500-meter clocking a 4:51.79.
- Taliah Wickett ran a personal best 56.74 to claim fourth followed by Delverna Broomfield in fifth with a 57.2 .in the 400-meters.
- The 4x400 relay team of Shamia Jones, Delverna Broomfield, Taliah Wickett, Rebecca Bernadin claimed fourth timing a 3;54.96.
- JaNyiah Davis took fourth with a height of 5-feet, 3-inches.
- Yasmin Grace set a personal best in the long jump, 5. 74- 18-feet,10-inches
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- DeVaughn Vaughn placed first with a 54.35 to win the 400-meter hurdles.
- Xavier Clark, Marcus Cade, DeVaughn Vaughn posted fourth, fifth, and sixth places finishes, respectively, in the long jump
- Marcus Cade was third in the high jump with a height of 6-fee, 08-inches.
- Isiah Palmer claimed a top-10 finish in the pole vault, taking seventh (12-09.50)
- In the 800-meters, Khabeeba Mills was third (1:53.77) and Amos Beadle was fifth (1:54.36).
- Kendrick Winfield brought home second in the 100-meters with 10.5
- Joshua Knox, Kendrick Winfield, Khabeeba Mills, Dequan Tate outran the field with a 3:09.55 in the 4x-400 relay.
