Several top-10 finishes for Alabama State at USC Invite

COLUMBIA, S.C. | Alabama State recorded several top-10 finishes at the South Carolina Invite on Saturday, its final meet before the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championships.
 
On the women's side, Shamia Jones finished fifth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:09.66 just 0.27 seconds behind Britney Chatfield of Kennesaw State. The 4x400-meter relay also finished fifth in the meet with a time of 3:54.25.
 
Kayla Love finished seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 11.41 meters (37-05.25), while Quincy Penn finished eighth in the 400-meters with a time of 55.69 seconds. She finished just 0.20 seconds behind Tatiana Martinez of Florida A&M.


Meanwhile, Taliah Wickett finished ninth in the 800-meters in 2:15.70, less than a second behind Emma Ferguson of Kennesaw State. In the long jump, Shakayla Riggins finished 10th overall at 5.45 meters (17-10.75).
 
On the men's side, Jamarion Stubbs proved to be one of the fastest collegiate athletes at the meet running a 6.63 to finish third overall and the top collegiate in the 60-meters. He followed that up with a top collegiate finish and second overall in the 200-meters with a time of 20.91 seconds. In the same 200-meters, Justus Trainer finished fourth at 21.30 seconds.
 
Amos Beadle and Khabeeba Mills ran two of the fastest times in the 800-meters with Beadle at 1:51.46 and Mills at 1:51.57. Meanwhile, Jon Coulter finished ninth in the 1-mile run at 4:28.14.
 
Vaughn DeVaughn III qualified fourth in the 60-meters hurdles before finishing third at 8.18 seconds, while DeMarco Thompson II finished eighth at 8.23. Xavier Clarke recorded a pair of top-10 finishes with a fifth-place finish in the long jump at 6.95 meters (22-09.75) and ninth. in the triple jump at 13.71m (44-11.75).
 
Seth Stockton finished fourth in the triple jump at 14.39 meters (47-02.50).
