Birmingham, Ala. – Alabama State dominated the competition at the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships, securing the women's team title with a series of standout performances.
Taliah Wickett claimed the women's 800m title with a time of 2:07.06, followed closely by teammate Aliyah Williams, who finished second with a time of 2:09.91. Williams went on to break the SWAC record in the mile run, winning the event with a time of 4:57.18.
Freshman Kennedi McCord became the meet champion in the pole vault with a mark of 3.36m, while Yasmin Grace secured third place in the triple jump with a leap of 12.20m. Rasunek Tyler-Thompson put up strong performances, finishing second in both the 60m dash (7.57) and the 60m hurdles (8.40).
Jaqual Bush finished second in the 200m with a time of 23.84, followed by Daylin Gibson in third with a time of 24.00. In the high jump, Ja'Nyiah Davis secured third place with a height of 1.62m. The Lady Hornets also dominated the 4x400m relay, claiming the title with a time of 3:42.17. The championship-winning team featured Taliah Wickett, Daylin Gibson, Jaqual Bush, and Angelique Debgoe.
While the Alabama State men finished fourth overall, several athletes delivered exceptional performances. Jamarion Stubbs set a new SWAC record in the 200m with a blazing time of 20.97 and also claimed the 60m title with a time of 6.62. Vaughn DeVaughn III finished third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.98, followed closely by DeMarco Thompson in fourth at 8.00.
Jon Coulter secured third place in the mile run with a time of 4:24.57. In the triple jump, Seth Stockton was crowned meet champion with a mark of 15.64m, while Isaiah Riggins followed in third with 15.46m.
The Hornets also made history in the relays, sweeping both events. The 4x400m team—Nickory Richards, Chad Gaffney, Khabeeba Mills, and Vaughn DeVaughn III—set a new SWAC record with a time of 3:11.61. Alabama State also won the distance medley relay with a time of 10:14.37, featuring Amos Beadle, Chad Gaffney, Khabeeba Mills, and Jon Coulter.
