MONTGOMERY --
The Alabama State University volleyball team was swept by Alabama A&M 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 25-18) in its home finale Tuesday night before a crowd of 165 at Lockhart Gymnasium.

Although it was senior night for the Lady Hornets the victory went to the Bulldogs (10-10, 5-1). Alabama State (11-16, 3-3) saw 34 total kills, 23 attack errors, and not one player tallying double figures in the kill column.  Alabama A&M out hit Bama State .326-.104 and two players scored double figures in kills.  Leading the Bulldogs' attack were Karensa Beckford (13 kills) and Clarissa Moore (10 kills) who accounted for 23 of Alabama A&M's 42 kills.

“We struggled tonight,” said Alabama State Head Coach Sonia Price.  “By the lights going out we lost a little of our momentum in the second and third games.”  I am really proud of the ladies for their efforts, because they could have given up at any point.”

The Lady Hornets were paced by junior outside hitter Asia Manning, who tallied 9 kills on .222 hitting and six digs.  Seniors' Brena Wheeler and Jessica Lindsey both posted seven kills apiece.

Wheeler also added five digs and one service ace.

In set one the Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 run before the Lady Hornets took advantage of the mistakes that A&M were making, finally knotting the game 8-8 both teams went back and forth until the Bulldogs went on another 4-0 run (16-12).  ASU would get as close as 15-17 before the lights went out only to resume an hour later.  After the power returned to two teams resumed play to once again knot the game 18-18 again neither of the teams were able to take control as the two teams went through a long exchange of points.  However Alabama A&M would end it on the next points to close out the first set in a 26-24 victory.

In the second game the Lady Hornets surrendered the first three points before fighting back with a run of its own to eventually reach within two points 12-14.  The Bulldogs' lead would eventually swell to 23-17 before closing out the second game with another victory ending in 25-17.

Game three saw similar parts as game two neither team really taking control, until the Bulldogs went on a five run lead to give them the 13-8 advantage.  The Lady Hornets were unable to keep the momentum and the Bulldogs went on the take the final set 25-18

The Lady Hornets will be off for the next few days before they return to the court on November 2 against Albany State in Albany, Ga.  The game time is set for 5 p.m. eastern time.
