JACKSON, Miss. – The Alabama State volleyball team fell to No. 1 Jackson State, 3-0 (25-11, 26-24, 25-23), on Wednesday.

“We played extremely well the second and third sets, we showed a little fatigue in the first,” Sonia Price, head volleyball coach, said.  “We're growing from these experiences and our best will come out during the SWAC Championship Tournament next week”.

Alabama State (11-19, 3-5 SWAC) was led offensively by junior Asia Manning, who tallied 13 kills in the match.  Brena Wheeler finished with seven kills and eight digs, while Roselande Cornielle had 22 digs for the Lady Hornets.

Brittany Larkin recorded 14 kills, while Donisha Dunn finished with 10 kills.  Setter LaToya Clark had 42 assists to lead Jackson State (23-11, 6-1 SWAC).

Jackson State jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead and continued on to a 17-4 advantage in set one.  ASU wasn't ever able to get into the set; the Tigers went on a 4-0 run to finish out the match with a 25-11 win.

The two squads battled back and forth, exchanging points and seeing neither team gain a substantial lead.  Down 9-8, Alabama State came up some big blocks and kills from Manning to knot the game 15-15.  With the set tied, the Lady Hornets put together a three point run to go up 19-16.  Alabama State continued to push its lead until the Tigers of Jackson State converted off of ASU's errors and took the set 26-24.

Tied at three apiece in set three, the Tigers pushed a 2-0 run to take the 5-3 advantage.  Alabama State came back with a four-point run of its own to go up 11-7.  A pair of kills from Chyna Coleman and Larkin put Jackson up 12-11 and the two teams traded point through the middle parts of the set.  Tied at 23 apiece, Jackson pushed a run to go on to win 25-23.

The Lady Hornets concludes its regular season and will prepare to play in the 2010 SWAC Championship Tournament Friday-Saturday, Nov. 19-20 starting Friday at 9:00 a.m. in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
