PRATTVILLE, Ala. – Alabama State University freshman golfer Aileen Meredith carded a tournament best final round 74 Tuesday en route to taking home the individual medalist crown of the Huntingdon Hawk Invitational.
Meredith, a native of Apia, Somoa, finished the 36-hole event tied with Birmingham Southern's Ashley Lovell with a score of 156 (82-74) but earned the individual title in a playoff. It marked her school record fourth individual title in her debut season at ASU.
Behind her strong performance, the Lady Hornets vaulted from fifth to a third-place showing with a final tournament score of 695 (82-74). The event was played on the par 72, 5,816-yard layout of the Prattville Country Club.
Bama State's final round climb was also assisted by the play of several other linksters as the Lady Hornets placed four golfers in the final Top 20.
Danielle Robinson (95-83=178) and Taaj Hubbard (93-85=178) tied for 14th place while
Brittanie Brooks earned a 19th-place finish of 183 (92-91).
D'Andrielle Robinson trimmed 14 shots off her opening round performance finishing tied for 29th at 204.
Birmingham Southern earned the team championship with a two-day tally of 671 followed by West Georgia second at 381. Bama State was third followed by Tennessee State (716), Piedmont College (718), Huntingdon College (760) and Spellman College (1080).
ASU now begins its final preparation for the SWAC Championship Tournament Apr. 19-20 in Alexandria, La.
