Volleyball To Host Stillman In Home Opener

The Alabama State volleyball team will play host to its first home match of the 2011 season on Wednesday, Sept. 7 against the Stillman College Tigers at 6:00 p.m. in Lockhart Gym.

“I am excited about playing at home”, said head coach Penny Lucas-White.  “We've been on the road for the past two weeks and now this gives the ladies an opportunity to be cheered by their fans and peers”.

The Lady Hornets enter the contest recording a 1-7 record after playing in the South Carolina State Tournament in Orangeburg, S.C.  ASU defeated Claflin 3-0 and fell to The Citadel 2-3, South Carolina State 0-3, and Wofford 0-3 in some hard fought matches.

Alabama State leads the series 6-0 against Stillman, including last season's match on Sept. 28.

Stillman College enters the match with a 1-4 record, having lost to LaGrange 1-3, Huntingdon College 0-3, Piedmont 3-0 and Birmingham Southern 0-3 in the Birmingham Southern College McK Attack Tournament.

Last year the Lady Hornets defeated the Stillman College Tigers 3-2, in Tuscaloosa, Ala.  Two Lady Hornet players recorded double figures, including Asia Manning who tallied 13 kills and seven digs.

The game is free to the public and can be seen via livestats at www.bamastatesports.com or by going directly to http://www.sidearmstats.com/alasu/wvb.
