Lady Hornets Drop Tigers In Three Games

Maya Bell finished with 22 kills and two service aces to lead Alabama to a 3-0 victory over Stillman College State (25-15, 25-20, 25-23)  in the home opener in Lockhart Gym in front of 346 fans.

“The young ladies did a great job tonight, but we are still young,” said head coach Penny Lucas-White.  “I think that the more we play the better we will get.  We still have some kinks to work out, but I really feel like we are coming together.”

 Stillman was paced by Jamila McKinnis, who tallied 18 kills averaging a .469 hitting percentage.  Junuar Page of Stillman led the team with 19 assists.  The Tigers averaged .284 in kills as a team.

 Roseland Cornielle and Asia Manning helped the ASU attack, both finishing the match with 9 kills apiece.  Cornielle averaged a .273 in hitting, while Manning's hitting percentage was .222.  Bell led the team in hitting percentage with .432 her career high thus far this season.

 Alabama State head to Thibodaux, La. tomorrow for the Nichols State University Tournament, their first match is set for 12:30 on Sept. 9 against South Alabama.
