Volleyball Ready for Final Non-Conference Foe

Alabama State University's volleyball team will face their final non-conference foe of the season when they travel to Tuscaloosa to play Stillman College Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. This is also the final regular season road game of the season.

This is a rematch of a game the two played back on Oct. 8 in Montgomery. A game which the Lady Hornets won by a 3-0 (25-4, 25-18, 25-6) score.

"We are still trying to get better and trying to get ready for the SWAC Tournament and this is another game we can work on doing that," Head Coach Penny Lucas-White said.

ASU (17-14) enters the game looking for their 18th win of the season. Amber Bennett is closing in on 300 kills for the season entering tomorrow's game with 297. She is averaging 2.78 kills per set and hitting a team-high .328.

Tiara Kelley continues to close the season strong. She has moved into second on the team with 233 kills, averaging 2.22 per set and is not hitting .203.

The one-two punch of Brooke Beasley and Ellyn Jones has been one of the reason's the ASU offense has been so strong this season. They have both been on the court at the same time and Beasley has supplied 509 assists this season and Jones is not far behind with 462.

Luiza Griz continues to be one of the best defensive specialists in the SWAC. She has 305 digs this season and has almost 1,600 for her career.

The Lady Hornets will go into the Stillman contest with 202.0 total blocks. They have 61 solo blocks and 282 block assists. Their opponents have only managed 148.5 total blocks. Bennett continues to lead the Lady Hornets and is one of the best in the SWAC with 92 total blocks (25 BS, 67 BA). She averages 0.86 blocks per set.

Myla Marshall and Latoya Ellington are averaging 0.70 blocks per set. Marshall has 72 (12 BS, 61 BA) total blocks and Ellington has 44 (5 BS, 39 BA).

Once the Stillman game is completed, ASU will finish the season with three consecutive home conference games, beginning with Alabama A&M Thursday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.
