MONTGOMERY, ALA. – The Alabama State women's soccer team will seek to rekindle the pep in their step when the Lady Hornets host Troy on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the ASU Soccer Complex.
The game will also create awareness for Samaritan's Feet—a not-for-profit organization that raises money and shoes for the needy around the world.Â
The Alabama State University athletics department will make their first gesture to support Samaritan's Feet by participating in an awareness cause.Â
To pay Samaritan's Feet in a tribute, ASU head women's soccer coach
Jodie Smith will wear no shoes for the match.Â
The initiative will seek to raise funds to donate to the organization for children who cannot afford proper foot ware to protect against bacterial and illnesses.

As for the match, ASU (0-1) will attempt to get back to the cohesiveness it showed 10 days prior in its 3-1 exhibition win against AUM.Â
In that match, the Lady Hornets held a 10-7 advantage in shots taken and received three goals from freshman midfielder
Larissa White.Â
In last Friday's match against Georgia State, ASU was outshot 19-7 and failed to score.Â
"Midfield is kind of the point guard or quarterback of the soccer team," Smith said. "If you control the midfield, generally, you have a great chance to win. In our exhibition match, we did a great job with that. Then, as the game wore on this past Friday [against Georgia State], we lost midfield and certainly paid a price for it. [Troy] has veterans with a lot of experience [in the midfield] so that's a definite plus for them."  Â
Troy (1-1) has demonstrated that it can play with top competition in the country.Â
After playing in a competitive 2-1 loss against No. 8 Florida during an exhibition match, it opened the regular season with a 2-0 win against Gardner-Webb.
The Trojans were once again competitive against another big school this past Sunday night as it lost 1-0 to Alabama.
Troy, who plays in the Sun Belt Conference, return nine starters from last year's squad that went 16-6 overall.
Among their top returnees include senior midfielders Alissa Jones (12 goals, 10 assists in 2014) and Chelsey Williams (eight goals, five assists).Â
Sophomore goalkeeper Mikki Lewis has been formidable in net after allowing just 0.81 goals per match.Â
"It definitely is going to be a tough test for us," Smith added.Â
"We're going to have to be more disciplined defensively and cut out a lot of the mistakes that we made [in our last match]. When we have chances, we have to finish them. It starts in how we come out of the locker room. Are we engaged? Are we going to have play for 20 minutes and wilt? Or, are we going to give a full, consistent 90-minute effort?"
