ALEXANDRIA, La. | Six-time Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champion Alabama State finds itself in second place after 36 holes at the conference tournament Oak Wing Golf Club.
Alabama State finished day with a two round total of 38-over 614, sitting 31 shots back of Prairie View A&M who has a two day total of seven-over 583. Texas Southern is currently in third at 45-over 621. Meanwhile, Alcorn State sits in fourth at 57-over 633 for the tournament, while Arkansas Pine Bluff rounds out the team standings.
The Hornets have four players in the top 10, but they are chasing four players from Prairie View A&M who are in the top four. Overnight leader Laurence Crea of Prairie View A&M came back to the field after firing an opening round five-under 67 in the opening round, firing a second round four-over to enter the final round with a three shot lead over teammate John Jones at two-over par 146. The Panthers also have a pair tied for third in the tournament.
Alexandre Belanger and
Mbongeni Maphosa are tied for fifth in the tournament at eight-over 152, while
Noel Sims is tied for seventh with three other players including teammate
Quincy Stith. The duo is sitting at 11-over 155 through two rounds.
Final round play resumes at 8 am Wednesday at the Oak Wing Golf Club.
