MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State volleyball coach Penny Lucas-White released the 2019 schedule for the three-time defending Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champion Lady Hornets today.

The Lady Hornets will play nine home matches during the season and will also play in four different tournaments – including one at home. The home tournament kicks off the 2019 season as the MEAC/SWAC Challenge returns to Lockhart Gymnasium beginning August 30 and running two days. In that tournament, the Lady Hornets will face South Carolina State (August 30), Florida A&M (August 30) and Delaware State (August 31).

Following their home tournament, Alabama State hits the road for eight consecutive road matches that include a road trip to Birmingham to face UAB (September 3), before back-to-back tournaments on the road in Illinois. Alabama State plays three games in Chicago (Ill.) in a tournament hosted by Chicago State (September 6-7), and the tournament includes matches against Cal-State Fullerton and Tennessee State – as well as the host team. They hit the road for a tournament host Southern Illinois (September 13-14) in Carbondale where they will face the likes of Memphis and IUPUI.

The Lady Hornets return home September 17 hosting South Alabama, before hitting the road for Arizona (September 20-21) where they will face the Wildcats on their home floor. They will also take on Sacramento State and New Mexico State before the first SWAC Roundup hosted by Prairie View A&M (September 27-29).
Alabama State continues their road swing in Hattiesburg (Miss.) against Southern Miss (October 2), and then return home to play Alcorn State (October 6) and Mississippi Valley State (October 7) before a 10-match road trip.

During their trip, Alabama State faces Jackson State (October 13) and Alabama A&M (October 18) before the final SWAC Roundup hosted by Jackson State (October 25-27). The Lady Hornets then continue their road swing at Florida A&M (October 29), Alcorn State (November 3) and Mississippi Valley State (November 4). The Lady Hornets end the regular season with three consecutive home matches against Troy (November 6), Jackson State (November 11) and Alabama A&M (November 15).

Alabama State volleyball has played in six consecutive SWAC championship matches and has won the title in five of those six seasons (2013, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018). The team won 42 consecutive conference matches from 2016 to 2018. Head coach Penny Lucas-White recorded her 150th victory at Alabama State, and 400th career victory during the 2018 season.
