Montgomery, Ala. – Alabama State volleyball junior
E'laisah Young has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week as announced by the conference office on Wednesday evening.
Young earned the accolade after her efforts against South Alabama and in the Wildcat Classic this past weekend. Earning this award marked the fourth consecutive week where a Lady Hornet has claimed an honor.
Young was an all-around threat the past week as she finished with 20 kills with a .400 hitting percentage, seven digs, and a team-high nine blocks including one solo. Against South Alabama, Young posted a .375 hitting percentage with four kills and four blocks.
Young posted back-to-back .400 or better hitting percentage against Sacramento State (.455) and New Mexico State (.471). In the match versus New Mexico State, Young recorded a team-high nine kills with only one error alongside a game-high four blocks and three digs.

Alabama State will begin Southwestern Athletic Conference action when the team travels to Prairie View, Texas to play in the SWAC West Roundup from Sept. 27-29. The Lady Hornets will face Texas Southern (10 a.m.) and UAPB (3 p.m.) to open the roundup on Friday.
