MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and first-year head coach
Quincy Heard released the 2020 spring schedule for the Hornets' golf program this weekend.
Alabama State who claimed the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship on the women's side in 2019 and finished as the conference runner-up on the men's side, opens the season in Sorrento (Fla.) at the HBCU Legends Golf Tournament this week – January 21. The opening tournament of the year will be played at the Eagle Dunes Golf Club.
The two teams will then return to the state of Alabama for back-to-back tournament, beginning with a tournament in Birmingham (Ala.) February 11-13. The Hornets will host their annual ASU Spring Kickoff Classic beginning February 23, with the tournament making the move back across the river bridge to the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Prattville.
After their home tournament the women travel to Kiawah Island for the Kiawah Island Spring Classic hosted by Charleston Southern March 1, before the men return to action March 8 in Jackson (Tenn.) at the 2020 Grover Page Classic hosted by UT-Martin. The men stay on the road the following week, playing in the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians Golf Classic in Robinsonville (Miss.); while the women return to action in Gulf Shores (Ala.) March 20 at the Bama Beach Classic.
Prior the conference tournament, the men hit the course in Carrabelle (Fla.) at the Invitational at St. James Bay Golf Classic hosted by Florida A&M beginning March 3. Both teams begin their chase for the SWAC championship in mid-May as the teams hit the course in Alexandria (La.) at the tournament championship, before the women travel to Pine Mountain (Ga.) for the National Women's Collegiate Golf Championships April 26.
The two teams close out the regular season at the PGA Works tournament in Port St. Lucie (Fla.) beginning May 8.
