Five Lady Hornets Selected to All-SWAC Volleyball Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named five Alabama State women's volleyball players to the All-SWAC first and second team. Kalysia Bates was tabbed first team All-SWAC while Jada Rhodes, A'Nylah Cobb, Emily Brooks, and Temperance Chatman were named All-SWAC second team.

Kalysia Bates was named All-SWAC first team as a middle blocker after logging 103 total blocks (31 solo, 74 assisted) for the Lady Hornets this season. The Phenix City native also ranked second on the team in kills with 291 and fourth in conference in hitting percentage (.302). She also totaled a team-high 401 points during the regular season. 

Jada Rhodes was selected to the All-SWAC second team as an outside hitter after leading Alabama State in kills this season with 318 during the regular season. Rhodes tallied seven matches with 17 or more kills and ranked second on the team in digs (222). She registered a season-high 23 kills in a 3-1 win over Florida A&M earlier this month (Nov. 6).

A'Nylah Cobb was tabbed All-SWAC second team as an outside hitter after ranking third on the team in kills with 177 total during the regular season. Cobb also logged 96 digs on the season for Alabama State and registered 196.5 points on the year. She netted a season-high 16 kills in a 3-1 win over Florida A&M on November 6th.

Emily Brooks was named All-SWAC second team at the setter position after leading Alabama State in assists with 416 during the regular season. Brooks also logged 29 assists and 121 digs to help Alabama State clinch the 2022 regular season title. 

Temperance Chatman rounds out the five Lady Hornets selected after being named All-SWAC second team as a libero. Chatman led Alabama State in digs with 396 during the regular season. She also registered 88 assists and 19 service aces for ASU this year. Her season-high in digs came against Long Island University (Aug. 26) after scooping 32 digs in that match. 

Alabama State women's volleyball advanced to the SWAC Championship Tournament semifinal today after sweeping Alabama A&M in the quarterfinal. The Lady Hornets will take on Jackson State tomorrow (Nov. 19) at 2 p.m.
