Prattville, Ala. | The Alabama State men finished with a second-place finish, while the women finished in third at the ASU Spring Kickoff Classic at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Prattville.
The Hornets shot a first round 24-over (312) and second round 28-under (316) to finish second in the standings with a 628 in a weekend cut short due to weather. They finished 12 strokes behind winner Western Illinois and eight strokes ahead of Evansville (636), followed by Arkansas-Pine Bluff (638), Savannah State (642), Alabama A&M (644), Maryland Eastern Shore (672) and Morehouse College (773).
Gonzalo Moreno (Seville, Spain) finished third in the event, ending day with a five-over 77 in round one before shooting up to third after two with a three-over 75 and a 152 total, while
Max Adams (London, England) finished in the top ten with a two-over in the first and 11-over in the second for a 157 total.
Bishop Stringer (Cecil, Ala.) finished 13th shooting eight-over 80 on Sunday before a six-over 78 on Monday 158, followed by
Thomas Cadell (Vance, Ala.), who finished 19th at 161 with a nine-over 81 in round one and eight-over 80 to close out play.
Ty Roberts (Canyon, Texas) was the final Alabama State golfer in competition, shooting a total of 180 to end the tournament.
Teresa Diez Dorta (Santa Cruz De Tenerife, Spain) led the women's side, using her seven-over 79 on day two to jump up five spots after a 14-over 86 on Sunday. Teammates
McKenzie LeDuff (Lake Charles, La.) and
Hallie Bridgers (Baltimore, Md.) finished 14th and 15th respectively, with LeDuff finishing the two-day event shooting 27-over for the event and a 171 total, while Bridges rose four spots from day one, shooting a 172 over the past two days.
Alabama State finished third with a score of 109-over and 685, shooting a 56-over 344 on Sunday before a 53-over 341 on Monday. They finished just four strokes behind Chicago State at 681 and ahead of Maryland Eastern Shore (819) and Savannah State (1140).
