Alabama State finishes second on both leaderboards in Birmingham

Men finish four shots behind Texas Southern, women finish behind Texas Southern

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State finished second on both leaderboards at the 2022 Birmingham Spring Invitational hosted at RTJ Oxmoor Valley (Valley Course) on Tuesday afternoon.

On the men's side shot a final round 13-over par to finish at 23-over 591 for the tournament, finishing behind Texas Southern who finished at 19-over 587. The Tigers shot a final round 8-over to get the win. Meanwhile, on the women's side, Alabama State shot a final round 54-over to finish the tournament at 124-over 700, finishing runner-up to Texas Southern.

The Highlights (Men)
  • Gonzalo Moreno (Seville, Spain) finished with a final round 2-over 73 to finish the tournament second overall with a 3-over 145. He finished just three shots behind Paul Kci Lindskog of Texas Southern – the first-round leader.
  • Ty Roberts (Canyon, Texas) finished third just one shot behind his teammate at 4-over 146 after a final round one even par. He finished tied with Landon Johnstone of Texas Southern.
  • Bishop Stringer (Cecil, Ala.) finished tied for seventh with an 8-over 150, while Thomas Caddell (Vance, Ala.) also carded an 8-over 150 for the tournament to round out the field for Alabama State.
The Highlights (Women)
  • Teresa Diaz Dorte (Santa Cruz De Tenerife, Spain) finished second after a final round 76, finishing the tournament two shots behind Rev Alcantara of Texas Southern. Dorte finished at 16-over 160.
  • Katie Robinson (American Canyon, Calif.) finished ninth overall after a final round 89, finishing at 30-over 174.
  • Iman Adams (Cape Town, South Africa) finished 12th in the tournament, while McKenzie LeDuff (Lake Charles, La.) and Hallie Bridgers (Baltimore, Md.) rounded out the top 14
  • Tia Kimbrough (Bellville, Ill.) rounded out the golfers for Alabama State with a top 15 finish.
The Field
  • Alabama State competed against Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M, and Florida A&M (men) over the two-day event.
Next Tournament
  • The men head to Greensboro (N.C.) in three weeks to play in the North Carolina A&T Invite, while the women will head to Daytona Beach (Fla.) for the 2022 Bob Steffens Invitational hosted by Stetson on the same weekend (March 27-28).
