Men's Golf in Eighth After 36 Holes In Potomac

POTOMAC, Md. - After 36 holes on Monday, the Alabama State men's golf team sits in eighth place at the Howard-USF Invitational, and has one individual in the top 25. The Hornets shot opening rounds of 316 and 307 for a 623 two-round total. 

Gonzalo Moreno led the Hornets on day one, shooting opening rounds of 76 and 73 to tie for 18th place after 36 holes. Moreno carded five birdies on the day including two straight on holes seven and eight in round two. 

Freshman Miguel Ilas tied for 31st place after carding rounds of 79 and 78. Cecil, Alabama native Bishop Stringer sits in 39th place after shooting opening rounds of 78 and 81. 

Ignacio Puente showed improvement in round two after registering an 83 in round one but followed up with a second round of 78. Puente sits in a 42nd place tie after two rounds. 

Sophomore Jeffery Roberts shot rounds of 87 and 78 to tie for 47th place after day one.

San Francisco leads the tournament as a team with an opening round of 275 that they followed up with a 286.

The final round is slated for tomorrow at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farms in Potomac, Md.
