BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Alabama State junior Temperance Chatman defensive player of the week while also naming junior Emily Brooks setter of the week for their performances this past weekend to open conference play.

Chatman was named defensive player of the week after recording 17 kills in a 3-0 sweep against Jackson State and eight digs against Mississippi Valley State. The Jasper, Alabama native recorded a total of 25 digs and four assists for the Lady Hornets during the opening weekend of conference play. Chatman is currently ranked fifth in the league in digs with 191 through the first 17 matches.

Brooks earned her setter of the week nod after registering 19 assists against Jackson State and 24 assists against Mississippi Valley State. She recorded a total of 43 assists, 14 digs, and three service aces for the Lady Hornets during the opening weekend of conference play.  

The Lady Hornets look to win their fourth straight on Friday (Sept. 30) as they host Bethune-Cookman inside Lockhart Gymnasium at 6 p.m.
