Hornets Track and Field Competes at Rod McCravy Memorial Meet

LEXINGTON, Ky. | The Alabama State Hornets concluded the Rob McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Ky, Friday and Saturday. The Hornets finished the meet with nine athletes qualifying for the semifinals and 11 top-12 finishes in the finals.

The Men's team had a strong outing as four Hornets advanced to the semifinals in the 60-meter dash. In the semifinals, Victor Smith finished third overall in 6.78, Jamarion Stubbs finished seventh overall in 6.89, Justus Trainer finished 10th overall in 6.94, and Matthew Clarke finished 16th overall in 7.03. All Hornets placed first in their heat, with Clarke coming in second.

Freshman Vaughn DeVaughn placed 6th in the high jump finals with a final mark of 1.85 meters (6-0 ¾). Ja'Niyyiah Davis finished ninth in the women's high jump with a mark of 1-55 m (5-1).

In the 600-meter dash, junior Khabeeba Mills finished fourth overall in 1:19.90 as he also placed first in his heat. Teammates Amos Beadle and Jon Coulter were close behind, finishing eighth and 13th overall with a time of 1:21.16 and 1:22.65.

The men capped off Day One with the 200-meter dash finals as junior Kendrick Winfield finished fifth in 21.90 and freshman Joshua Knox finished 12th in 22.39.

On the women's side, the trio of Shamia Jones, Talia Wickett, and Deleverna Bloomfield all placed in the top-10 of the 600-meter dash. Jones finished second overall with a time of 1:34.32, Wickett was close behind with a time of 1:36.70. Broomfield crossed the line less than a second later, finishing seventh in 1:37.22.

In the short sprints Jaqual Bush was the only Hornet to advance to the semifinals in the 60-meter dash, placing 15th overall in a time of 7.69 seconds after placing second in her heat. Bush also finished eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.46.

The women wrapped up day one with the field events as Taranique Alexander finished third in the long jump finals with 5.77 m (18-11 ¼). Teammates Yazmine Grace and Shakayla Riggins finished 20th and 21st with a distance of 4.95 m and 4.74 m.

DAY 2

Day Two saw seven Hornets participate in the finals. Bush finished 15th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.77. Morgan O'Neal placed 15th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.81.

On the men's side, Smith finished 2nd overall in the 60-meter dash in 6.71. Stubbs finished sixth in a photo-finish in 6.96. Two Hornets finished in the top-10 for the 400-meter dash as Kendrick Winfield came in third with a 48.66 and Daquan Tate finished 10th with a time of 49.92.
The Lady Hornet quartet of Kahiyah Anderson, O'Neal, Chloe Vines, and Taliah Wickett placed eighth overall with a time of 3:52.09. The men's team of Clarke, Joshua Knox, Tate, and Winfield finished sixth with a time of 3:16.60.
