Hornets Track and Field Competes at Samford Open

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Alabama State Hornets completed the Samford Open in Birmingham, Ala. where they achieved 10 lifetime bests, five top-five finishes, and a school, and meet record.

Jaqual Bush finished fifth overall in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.76. In the 200-meter dash, three Lady Hornets finished in the top-10. Taranique Alexander in seventh, Kahiyah Anderson in third with, and Shawnakay Peart in fifth.

On the men's side, Victor Smith finished with the second-fastest time of the day, coming across the line in 6.72. Justus Trainer placed seventh with a time of 6.92. Trainer came away with a first-place finish in the 200-meter-dash crossing the line in 21.70.

In the 60-meter-hurdles Rasunek Tyler-Thompson placed first in 8.72. Shamia Jones finished third in the mile with a time of 5:11.77.

Kendrick Winfield and Jamarion Stubbs finished one-two in the 400-meter dash with a final time of 48.74 and 48.87. Winfield and Stubbs also were a part of the 4x400-meter-relay quarter that set a new Samford Open meet record and Alabama State School record in 3:13.48.

In the field events, Shakayla Riggins placed ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.29m while also coming in 10th in the long jump with a final mark of 5.04m.

Marcus Cade was able to give the Hornets a top-five finish in the long jump, placing fifth with a final mark of 1.09m. Isiah Palmer came in 10th in the pole vault with a height of 3.90m.

The Hornets return back to action for the KMS Invite in Birmingham, Ala this Sunday.
