PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | Alabama State, the top seed for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship Tournament, kicks off play on Friday morning at 11 a.m. against No. 8 seed Bethune-Cookman.

The two teams have met twice this season with Alabama State (17-12) winning both. The Lady Hornets enter the tournament on a 16-match winning streak and will be in the same bracket as No. 4 seed Alabama A&M and No. 5 seed Jackson State.

The trip to Texas is the second this season for the Lady Hornets who are in search of their first tournament title since 2019.

Alabama State Notes
- The Lady Hornets have five players who have registered 100-plus kills including Jada Rhodes with 308 on the season. She has recorded 1,003 for her career and became the second player this season to record her 1,000th kill, joining Jylen Whitten.
- Whitten has 268 on the season, while A'Nylah Cobb (226), Taila Gaines (170), and Christyn Ashby (126) are in triple figures.
- Cobb recorded her 500th career kill against Alabama A&M, and Gaines reached that same number in the regular season finale against Jackson State.
- Meanwhile, Madison Beasley leads the team with 596 assists on the season and became the fifth player at Alabama State to reach 2,000 career kills. Emily Brooks is second on the team in assists this season with 409.
- Temperance Chatman leads the team defensively with 432 digs, pacing four players with triple digits in the category. She has recorded 886 career digs, leaving her five shy of the top five at Alabama State.
- The Lady Hornets continue to be one of the toughest serving teams in the conference and the country, ranking 21st in service aces per set and 29th in service aces.
Bethune-Cookman Notes
- The Wildcats enter the tournament having lost two of their final three matches of the regular season to Jackson State and Florida A&M. Prior to that, they were on a three-match winning streak.
- Mia Delahoussaye leads five players in double-figure kills for the Wildcats with 183, while Elizabeth Phillips has recorded 132. Meanwhile, Alisha Callender leads the team in assists with 365.
- Defensively, Essence Bell leads the team with 300 digs and Niara Hightower in blocks with 107.
