ASU Records and Four Podium Finishes Highlight Day One of SWAC Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. ­­­­—The Alabama State Hornets concluded day one of the SWAC Indoor Track and Field Indoor Championships setting two new school records and four podium finishes on Thursday at the Birmingham CrossPlex. 
 
MEN'S NOTABLES
  • ­Abdiqadir Mohamed highlighted day one as he was a part of two different school records. Mohamed secured the first and a silver medal in the men's 3,000-meter as he finished in a time of 8:34.78. He would then go on to help the men's distance medley relay team to a silver medal and new school record as they finished with a time of 10:12.06.
  • Joshua Jenkins placed in the top-10 of the 3,000-meter-run and finished with a time of 9:19.11.
  • Vaugh DeVaughn had a good start to his heptathlon finishing first in the long jump, second in the high jump, and sixth in the 60-meter-dash finishing the day with a total of 2,748 points.
  • Nicholas Moseley finished day one of the heptathlon in fifth place with 2,634 points and secured a first-place finish in the 60-meter-dash.
WOMEN'S NOTABLES
  • Shamia Jones earned bronze in the 3,000-meter-run and was a part of the DMR team that secured gold in 12:16.41.
  • Rebecca Bernardin was short of a podium finish as she came across the line just after Jones with a time of 10:48.65.
  • Shakayla Riggins sits in fifth place in the women's pentathlon with 2,967 points.
