Hornets Finish Fifth at Hornet Invitatinal

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico | The Alabama State men's golf team led after the first day in the Hornet Puerto Rico Invitational at the Grand Reserve Golf Club.

But the Hornets were unable to keep the momentum, falling to fifth on the final day with a three-day total of 927 (63-over). Alabama A&M earned the title with a team total of 24-over 888.

ASU held the lead by one stroke over Texas Southern after the first round but fell with a team total of 309 after the third day.

Jeffery Roberts finished with a team high 228, which was good for 12. Teammates Quade Woods (individualist) (229), Marcus Leonard (230) were next in the individual standings along with Narabodin Swaengdee, who also competed as a individualist.

Julian Colavecchia of Chicago State was the top medalist, finishing with a 5-under 211. That was three shots better than the rest of the field.

ASU's next tournament will be in Tampa, Fla for the USF Olympic Club Invitational, hosted by South Florida March 31-April 1.
